With the holiday’s upon us and family chef’s turning out mouth watering dishes, we thought we’d share one from our own, Millie – The Accidental Cook, as she’s known in her home town.
I’ve had this dish many times and it never gets old, chocked full of flavor and in my opinion, best served with your favorite “tater salad”.
Well, let’s get to it!
Millie’s Chili Beans
1 lb hamburger
2 tsp onion flakes
1⁄2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp parsley flakes
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup ketchup
1⁄2 cup rice cooked
28 oz can pork & beans
Cook hamburger (add 2 tablespoons of water to meat to make it crumble easier) drain, and place back into pan. Add onion flakes, garlic powder, parsley, sugar and ketchup, mix completely and simmer for approximately 5 minutes; Add rice and blend, simmer for 5 minutes more, then add pork and beans, simmer for approximately 6-8 minutes. Don’t overcook beans, need them to remain firm. Note: Millie uses Campbell’s Pork & Beans and Hunt’s Ketchup.
There you have it. An easy recipe thats good anytime of the year, indoors or out. Cook some up for your family and friends over the holidays, enjoy them around a campfire on your favorite piece of land, while building some memories.
Millie The Accidental Cook, my Mom, shares a recipe and story most every week in a local trade paper.
